I have been very busy with commission work, jobs and teaching this fall, and haven’t been able to make as many of my own things as I might like. However, after some recent discussion it looks like I might collaborate with a number of furniture builders in the beginning of next year to make some custom work. I decided I’d better bone up on my furniture fixture skills, so I’m working on a series of drawer pulls, knobs and feet for furniture. This first piece, an etched copper hinged drawer pull is simple, clean and elegant. It has 3 holes drilled, allowing it to be mounted via screw or bolt to a larger piece of furniture. This is a prototype, the final piece will have a nicer finish and be more cleanly lined up. This pieces is apprx. 3.5″ wide by 2″ tall, and is a bit heavy in sturdy 14 ga. copper. Eventually the piece would be cast into bronze, and plated whatever color/finish the client prefers. The two parts will be hand riveted together with nickel rod for maximum strength and durability. Below is a shot of the drawer pull in its open position. Keep checking back this fall for more furniture experiments!
